Tawny Hammond, the Director of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, has worked for the past 27 years in public service managing facilities and programs for pets and their people. She is committed to humane solutions for all animals in the Fairfax County community and to working collaboratively with advocacy and rescue partners. Fairfax County was one of the first shelters in the Washington DC metro region to begin a TNR program spaying and neutering over 3000 cats since the program’s inception. Additionally, Fairfax County became the largest municipality with a positive release rate above 90% under her guidance and leadership with programs featured in local, regional and national media. The Fairfax team focuses on continuing to evolve, creating change by example and facilitating regional and statewide support.
